I got SO GIDDY when I saw you mention the MacBean clan — I’m a MacBean too! Can’t wait to get over there one day…

Curious to know, is Randy, by chance, of the John MacBean of Exeter descendants? Or does he know?

So I looked it up and we do have a John MacBean but he descends from several William’s… we’ll have to get together and chat!

Oh wow! I'm not sure about Exeter - I'll have to look that up. His family was transported to Ireland then to the Carolinas and settled in Alabama.

Ah okay! With that history, he’s not! There were two MacBean brothers who came to the country in the 1650s — one, John Bean, was a prisoner sold into indentured servitude in NH who eventually settled in Exeter, NH. He’s my 10th great grandfather.

The other brother, William Bean, went to Cherry Point, Virginia as an indentured servant and eventually one of his descendents (great grandson William Bean) ended up being the first settler of European descent in Tennessee. Randy should read about Bean Station if he’s not heard of it!

I’m endlessly fascinated by this arm of my lineage, if you can’t tell 🤣 now off to see what I can learn about the Ireland, Carolina, Alabama MacBeans!

So turns out the Bean of Bean Station is the brother of Randy's ancestor. So yes, his family is the first to settle in Tennessee, and now he's down a HUGE rabbit hole we didn't already have. Thank you! Especially poignant because we just lost the family genealogy expert. It was almost as if she reached out and put us together.

Oh how cool!! I’m glad to be of help! My Grammie (maiden name was Bean!) was the family genealogist and passed on her passion for it with me, that’s for sure. ♥️

Yep, that's us, William Bean. That sounds familiar, I'll shoot this to him and see what he knows!
